Book Review:

Confessions of a reformed dieter: How I dropped eight dress sizes and took my life back

By A.J Rochester

This is an inspirational book, which charts the highs and lows of an Australian writer and poet, who decides to make changes to her lifestyle in order to lose weight. Her story was featured in an Australian documentary and the book provides a diary account of her journey.

A.J Rochester decides that after years of following "quick fix" diets which did not result in weight loss, she needs to make dramatic changes to her lifestyle. She seeks the advice of a personal trainer and a nutritionist. This is not a diet book, but about how you can change your lifestyle for good.

A.J Rochester clearly explains the changes that she had to make to her eating habits and activity levels, and the difficulties she encountered. All of this is told in a humorous way, but makes a serious point that if you lapse (and in her case eat chips and a battered sausage!!) you just carry on with your lifestyle changes and don't feel like you have failed completely.

A.J Rochester tells her story of how she lost 30 kg, and she also provides some very sensible advice on dealing with cravings, managing lapses, healthy snack ideas, low fat recipes/meal ideas, and exercise advice.

This book is not written by an expert, but explains how hard it can be to lose weight and make lifestyle changes; A.J Rochester also explains how rewarding it is to lose weight by making these changes, rather than by following a "quick fix" diet.

This book is a must read for all and one that you will find yourself turning to again and again for inspiration and information. Finally a quote from the book:

"all you really need to know is: do you want your life to change? If the answer is yes, then go out and find what works for you and just stick with it… There is no right or wrong track- it is one track- health and fitness"
